LAWLERS COUP WITH BLUE BOOK. New York, September 0. It develops that considerable money was taken out of tlie ring over the victory of Blue Book in the Keapers Stakes yesterday. This colt was a maiden until June 2S Inst, when lie won a selling race at Slieepshead Bay at odds of 20 to 1. His victory in the Reapers fwas bis second set of brackets. Blue Book is owned by James F. Carroll, a Brooklyn blacksmith, and is trained by J. S. Lawler, who, as a jockey years ago was known as Steve Charleston. Early yesterday morning Lawler took the three-year-old son of Handsome Blue Blood out for a trial gallop and was satisfied that lie could win the stake. He telephoned from the track to the owner and a number of friends including Dave Lainar and the Boles Brothers, telling them to bring all tbe money they could get together and bet the limit. When the money began to come into the ring, tlie bookmakers accepted it eagerly, laying 25 to 1 in some instances, but 20 to 1 for tlie bulk of it. Lamar, who profited most by the victory of Blue Book, was once known In Wall street as a plunger in stocks and a short while back had a stable of horses.
