MEMORIAL TO MARCUS DALY. A bronze statue of tbe late Marcus Daly was unvailed with becoming ceremony at Butte, Montana, last Monday. Tbe statue is tlie work of the late Augustin St. Gaudens and was one of his best efforts. Tlie statue is of heroic size and occupies a commanding position on a high pedestal in tbe center of tlie thoroughfare before the Federal building on north Main street. It can be seen for a considerable distance. The statue represents Mr. Daly in usual conventional attire, holding his overcoat over his left arm and his hat at his side on bis right hand. Inscribed in gold letters on tbe pedestal are tlie words: "Marcus Daly, a pioneer miner, who first developed tlie famous property on tbe hill overlooking tbe site of this memorial, which is erected by his fellow-citizens in tribute to his noble traits of character, in grateful remembrance of his good deeds and in commemoration of the splendid services lie rendered as a builder of the city of Butte and llie state of Montana. Erected 1000."
