THE ST. LEGER IS TO BE RUN TODAY. English Classic To Have Wool Winder for Its Odds-On Choice. The hist race of Englands three "Triple Crown" classics, the St. Leger, will be run at Doncaster this afternoon. The elimination of the Derby winner Orby from the list of possible starters has resulted in making Wool Winder a hot favorite, the latest quotations against him being the short price of 100 to ?.0. Despite this there Is an undercurrent of disbelief in the colt, yet the opposition had not, at latest advices, centered on any particular opponent. The French colt Hoi Ilerode, with Johnny HelfT as his jockey, is put down as nn assured starter and is in some quarters deemed more than n possible winner. Only a small field is looked for and Orbys absence has robbed the race of much of the interest usually attaching to its decision. The St. Leger was first run in 177C, so it antedates the Epsom Derby by four years. It ranks with the Derby in importance and unlike the Derby has; often fallen to a Ally.
