ARMY TO BREED CAVALRY MOUNTS. Lexington. Ky.. October 4. Sixteen thoroughbreds, two and three years old, tried and found wanting for racing purposes, were shipped last night to Fort Riley, Kansas, to bo used in the United States Army otlicer school at that point. J he horses were purchased by Lieutenant Engle and Dr. Plummer, the army veterinarian. Tliev arc all fillies with the exception of three. Phoenix I ark is a stallion. He will he gelded. Eventuallv the mares may be mated with a saddle stallion with tlie idea of breeding a new type of cavalrv mounts. Lieutenant Engle and Dr. Plummer left tonight for Warrenton. Va., where thev expect to buy some hunters if they are obtainable.
