JOCKEY MILLER AND HIS SLUMP. Some sood judges of racing in New York excuse jockey Millers recent bad riding on the ground that he has ridden too much and too steadily for two full years, and is stale and track sore. It is lough work this being an ordinary hard-working boy doing the best you can, more and bettor than others are doing it. failing sometimes and getting the back-wash of hero worship when you fail. In commenting on the boys work the notoriously dnfair New York Sun says: "Since the beginning of the recent GraveScnd meeting Miller has been beaten on a number of hot public choices. Including Suffrage twice. Beacon Light twice. Momentum, Rye. Temaceo, Yankee Girl, Tom McGrath twice. Ballot. Lady Anne, Running Water, Meggs Hill and Chulifa.V True. But take the other angle and credit the jockey with good rides on such odds-on public favorites as Colin, Celt, Nimbus and .lames B. Brady. Then, too, why not go farther and note xtra good work on Salvidore, Spooncr. Earls Court. Himalaya. Voorhees, Pins and Needles and Big Chief, all of which -won at long odds.
