Magazine drew out early and made the running, shook off his nearest attendant decisively on the last turn and won easing up. Live Wire broke slowly and was outpaced early, but gained rapidly in the last half and was a fast going second. King Cobalt showed superior early speed, ran lapped on the wiuuer for three furlongs and then tired. Queen Marguerite ran prominently throughout and held on gamely. John Marrs was outpaced decisively by tlie front division, but maintained his position steadily. De l.urgo, palpably short, is a good looker. Bellwether, away poorly, lacked his usual speed today. Clell Turney trailed fairlv well up and is a good looker. Sister Frances, in rare form, broke slowly, but closed up rapidly in the middle half and was carried verjv wide on the last turn by the leader, which she wore down finally, and was much tlie best. Consistent made the running very easily for six furlongs and bore out to the extreme outside ou the last turn,- but stood a long closing drive gamely. Anneta Lady broke slowly and was crowded on the first turn, then improved her position steadily and finished with a belated rush. Royal Lady, well up throughout under a. poor ride, lost third place in tlie last stride by a weak finish. Druid tired badly after strenuous and close" pursuit of the leaders for six furlongs. Right Royal, close up to the half, was knocked back when attempting to go through on the inside on tlie backstretch. then closed a big gap in a game, but unavailing, effort to ger up. Arinio was ridden hard after going tlie first. quarter to hold a small lead, tired badly on the far turn and finished beaten off. Amiiedo lost ground steadily after going the first half and ran a bad race. Momentum, front a Hying start, set the pace to the last stride before he succumbed and was not favored by the going. Chief Hayes, much the best, but inadequately ridden, dropped back early, then closed a big gap on the extreme outside and just failed to get up under a weak finish. Number One, nearly left, worked through a rough journey into a fast going fourth. Alencon helped to beat Momentum, ran lapped on him to the stretch and tired. Troublemaker failed unexpectedly to stay after showing superior speed for fiva furlongs, but was sore before the race. Pantoufle made up ground steadily.
