Preen got a good ride, while Chief Hayes was unskilfully handled by little Sumter. There was nothing Jack Atkin could not do to Chief Hayes when the two horses were in Brandts stable, yet Chief Hayes ran from behind Jack Atkin in muddy going last Monday ami beat him for place Monday in a race, won by Don Enrique.
