GOING AT PIMLICO IS IMPROVING. Track Still Heavy but Drying , Out Coup with Sam Bernard Fails. Baltimore. Md., October :!0. The track at Pimlico today was a great improvement over that of yes- terday, but was still heavy. The going had in- jured the entry list somewhat, but for all that the races were full of interest and the public had a fair day in the speculative arena. Two features were on the card, a hunters steeplechase and the handicap at one mile. Small fields started in both. The steeplechase proved a canter for the favorite. Tellfare, who was in front all the way and finished a sixteenth of a mile in front of his field. This is a good jumper at present and can beat good ones. Mr. Clietiands Kiintshaw, a winner on the northern circuit, of which much was expected, refused tlie second time around. The handicap was an easy thing for the light-weighted St. Jeanne, which got oft Hying and cantered all the way. The favor- ite. I.adv Karma, ran a shocking race and finished last. T. E. Mannix put over one of his occasional good tilings in the last race, winning with Ivanhoe, sec- ond choice in the betting. Henry rode a well-judged race on the winner. He lay in behind the pace to the stretch and then came away with much in hand. A coup with Sam Bernard had been planned in this race, and lie was the medium of a heavy plunge just at post time. It was whispered about that Nancy, which was making her fourth start at this meeting, was only in to cut out the running for Sam Bernard, and the betting indicated that. Xancy did her part well, and set "a hot pace to the stretch, but Sam Bernard could not get up. Ormondes Bight was on his good behavior today, lie acted kindly at the post, kept up well with ids field all the way and, coining strong in the stretch, beat out the odds-on favorite. Poquesslng.
