POSEIDONS DOUBLE TRIUMPH. In Australia last year the three-year-old colt : Poseidon, by Posltauo Jacinth, won the Caullield .Cup at Melbourne and followed this up by subsequently winning the Melbourne Cup, the greatest and richest of all Australian races. He carried, 105 pounds in the Caultiehl Cup and 104 in the Melbourne Cup. At the recent Fleniington meeting he won the Caultield Cup again ami had up 120 pounds this time. News of his second triumph led "Vigilant" lo say in the London Sportsman: "I see Poseidon has again won the Caulfield Cup, this time carrying Ost. 31b. He must be a really great horse, and bis trainer, Isaac Earn-shaw, is to be congratulated on having got him .back again into form, after he had gone stale from over racing last season. It was thought at one time that the son of Positaiio and Jacinth had seen his best day, and I know that Mr. Gal-stauu, who was willing to have given as much as 0,000 for him, was advised lmt to touch him at any price, but a letter I recently received from Earnshaw informed ine that Poseidon would pull out again all right, and now we know that he has done so. Positano, as most of us know, is a St. Simon horse. Jacinth, the dam of Poseidon, is by Martini Henry, son of Musket and Sylvia, by Fisherman. It looks as though Poseidon was in for another great season, unless indeed Dividend again . proves too much for him in the three-mile races."
