BEGUILES TEN YEARS OF RACING. One of the few aged horses which have come back to the races this year after a long retirement for one cause or another is Beguile, the twelve-year-old roan horse by Julien Miss Deceiver, now owned by G. Burry. Beguile made his first start ten years ago as a two-year-old at Fort Erie, June IS, 1S97, in a four and one-half furlongs race under the colors of Ilarland and Co., aud finished second to J. S. Wadsworths Komurasaki, beaten a half length in 573. In his next race five days later be was third to Strathniac and Wild Grape, lie scored in his third and last race at that track July 5, in a field or ten, with jockey Mc-Clone in the saddle. At the close of the meeting which followed at Grosse Pointe he was sold to George Hume, who raced him for the remainder of the year, winning two races with the colt. The following spring llunic Sold him to J. R. Walker and Walker started him for the first time in his colors at Oakley Park, Cincinnati, June .!, 1S9S. Out of sixteen starts during the season Walker only won but one race with Beguile, that at Fort Erie the first day of September, when Beguile finished first of seven in a six furlongs race in 1:15.. Walker disposed of the horse to J. Duggan, who raced him the next year with some success, winning six races and second money seven times out of twenty-seven races run at Hamilton, Montreal, Fort Erie, Windsor, Detroit and Newport. Duggan was so well satisfied with the horse that he continued to race him for four years, but with indifferent success and sold him in 1901 to E. Bolton, who had only started him twice when Beguile fell lame in a race at Hamilton, June 7, 1901 and did not race again until this spring, when he ran three races at Toronto, in which he finished last. Beguile upon his showing in these races, will probably not be sent to the post again, although Mr. Burry is not known to have made any such decision regarding the old horse. Beguile, at his best, was good over any distance and any kind of going and the races he has won during the years he has been in training have been creditable to a horse of his class. He has more than paid his way. Herewith is given a tabulation of his long career aud money won: Beguile, rn. h, 1895, by Julien Miss Deceiver. Year. Age. Sis. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp.
