4 DUGAN IS TO RIDE FOR WHITNEY. Oakland, Cal., December 19. C. E. Durnoll was given permission today by presiding steward E. C. Hopper to dispose of his horses to intending .bona fide purchasers on any terms he may see fit. That is to say, he will be allowed to accept notes, in f whole or in part payment of each sale. Mr. Durnell made his first authoritiative an- nouncement regarding Eddie Dugan for next season. Harry Payne Whitney will have first call on the crack lightweight jockey, and has already paid Durnell a large proportion of the retainer on account. R. T. Wilson, Jr., has secured second call.
