i NOTES OF THE TURF. .Tockev T. Burns will ride for William Garth during the spring meeting at Washington. Trainer C. Leigh ton lias secured jockey Garner to ride Don Creole in the Brooklyn and Metropolitan Handicaps. Former jockev George Taylor will return to the saddle again this season. He lias signed to ride for James McLaughlin and says he can make lOo pounds. John G. Cavanagh has chartered a special train which will carry most of the New Yorkers who will attend the Washington meeting. The train leaves New York Sunday afternoon. Fred Johnson has returned to his home in New York from a trip through the south. Thomas Me-Crcery will have charge of the horses Mr. Johnson lias shipped to Washington. W. O. Scullv will depart from his custom of years and will not race his horses at Washington this spring. "Farmer Bill" will remain in New York until the opening of the season at Aqueduct. E. J. Ramsey says he will race three or four horses at Denver this year instead of going to Seattle. The horses he will take with him are Orasscutter. Martinmas and Mabel Hollander. Harry Michaels, who rode on the South American tracks last year, has left New York for Buenos yres He came home last winter with the intention f riding in this country this year, but the license committee of the Jockey Club refused to grant him a license. Trainer Covington of the Sobre Vista Stable at Oakland has purchased two yongsters from C. T. Boots. Both were bred by Boots at his Elmwood Stud and their names and breeding are: Detector. . a bay colt by St. Symphorlen— Stealth, and Provedore. a bay colt by St. Symphorieu— Lucia di Lammernioor.
