CAIRNGORM NEARLY A GREAT RACE HORSE One of the veterans of eastern racing which has earned honorable retirement is Cairngorm now six years old and still showing some of his former great quality In five seasons on the turf Cairngorm has earned nearly 57000 and is still an earner though age has dulled his speed and experience taught him the futility of steady effort But in 1905 Cairngorm was nearly a great horse and would probably have been a champion but that Sysonby was out that year and In his dazzling light Cairngorms doings seemed less brilliant He was the second threeyearold that season to Mr Keenes great colt though they seldom met But Cairngorm managed to win eight stakes the Cup Preliminary and the Cup itself at Brighton beating Caughnawaga in both races Sara ¬ toga Derby Pocautico Handicap at Belmont Preak ness and Carl ton Stakes and Brooklyn Derby at Brooklyn and Bay Ridge at Shcepshead Bay In his other seasons Cairngorm was but a moderate horse with moderate engagements In his five rac ¬ ing seasons Cairngorm won races and money as is shown in the table below Cairngorm 1902 b h by Star Ruby Linda Vista Age Sts 1st 2d 3d Ullj p Won 2 18 9 5780 4 42245 4 12 5 2380 5 1U 7 5545 2 790 Totals 5 78 17 18 13 30 50740
