FORT ERIE MEETINGS SKIMPY PURSES PURSESIndications Indications appear to be that the Fort Erie meet ¬ ing will be a good one There will certainly be no lack of horses as the stables have all been en ¬ gaged The only difficulty will be that under ex ¬ isting conditions in the west many owners of good horses will be unable to find accommodations to race at the track under its new management The only cause of complaint the horsemen have and thU would appear to be a serious one too Is that the neY a1na eent as cut down its purses to WO and 350 Of course four and five hundred dollar condition events and handicaps are sandwiched in between but the daily total of added money in these events Is considerably less than offered heretofore 011 V10 Canadian circuit With the prospect of the most liberal patronage ever before known at Fort Krie the horse people are unanimous Iu the belief tnat the purses should have been kept up to tho old standard However ns half a loaf is better than none those of the horsemen lucky enough to get stalls at the Buffalo track will race there Just the
