UNITED STATES ARMY BUYS THOROUGHBREDS Lexington Ky July 25 Ir Pluuimer and Lieu ¬ tenant Elliott stationed at Fort Rlley are here buy ing thoroughbreds for the officers school of the United States Army at that point They will ship about twentyfive in tlie course of the next four or five elays Dr Plnnimer who is the veterinarian In charge at Fort Kiley says the thoroughbreds bought here last fall have proven satisfactory even beyond expectations and that fact has to do with his return for more thoroughbreds at this time Overtoil II Chenaiilt has cut his Spendthrift Stud down to thirty mares and he has only five yearlings left During the week he sold twenty mares and yearlings to John II Stewart and R L Baker who are buying up a number of the weeds to be sold off Iii tlie south and west without pedigree Mr Chenaiilt says that lie is now prepared for the war and that when fall comes it will find him a buyer instead e f a seller He says that he will bt in the market fe r ten or a dozen young mares of the lHst blexxl and that It Is his Intention to build up his stud He is optimistic as to the future of racing and believes that tlie sintrt will be reestablished on a better basis basisT T C McDowell sold during the week to John B Dillon secretary of the Latonia Jockey Club for a third party the threeyearold Galllleo The price paid was 1000 Mr McDowell also sold to John E Madden the yearling lilly by Ogden out of Pleas ¬ ant Girl she by Order out of Madrllene she ii daughter of Peg Woffington Mr Madden now has at Hamburg Place sixtyfour yearlings
