GROWING LIVELY AT SANTA ANITA. Los Angeles. Cal.. October 24. Dr. J. S. Gardner, manager of tbe Santa Anita Park race track, arrived here last night. He had a conference with Messrs. Handle and Atkins this morning and was much pleased to know that 500 horses are already comfortably quartered at the track. Later in the day "LUCky" Baldwin called at the office and a friendly chat followed. Dr. Gardner will endeavor to make the hew track a beautiful spot to look upon end will spend much time in hastening the floral embellishments. He went out to the course today and jumped into the traces at once. R. F. Carman is the latest eastern owner to arrive, his. string of twenty-one arriving here in tip top condition. Jack Atkiu, of which much is expected here next winter, is gradually becoming acclimated. He has taken on 100 pounds and will hardly face the barrier before Christmas. The full complement of stalls at the track. 1,050. is expected to be taken up in the next two weeks. The track, although somewhat bard, is dally swarmed with horses being rounded into racing condition. The first influx of eastern horsemen is expected about November S.
