NOTES OF THE TURF. Starter Dick Dwyer returned to San Francisco the other day. He will dispatch the fields at Oakland from the opening of the season until about tbe first of January, when lie will exchange places witli Jake Holtuian, who will open the season at Santa Anita. II. J. Ramseys Martinmas has developed a bad leg and it is possible that he will bo turned out for the winter at Ramseys farm near llayward. Martinmas is not much of a wet track horse and Ramsey figures that it will be just as well for him to have a rest until spring. 10. L. Stock, of Fresno, who sold his stable of horses at Butte, has returned to the coast from New York and buy two or three horses for a winter campaign in California. He was a visitor at Oakland recently and opened negotiations witli S. C. Hildreth for a cauple of likely two-year-olds. Samuel Ross stable, in charge of J. W. Graves, will be located at the Washington track for the winter. Ross has four promising yearlings in his string, two of which are sons of Glenheim. one of P.oohampton and one of Blues. The best one from all apKarances is the chestnut son of Glenheim Speedmas. which has shown a quarter in 24 seconds over the Bennlng track. Logistilla will be run in selling races tins winter, as trainer Hoag has become convinced that it will be very difficult for her to win any other kind of a race. Two years tigo Logistilla ran as favorite in the Opening Handicap, in which she was meeting the best horses in training on the coast. She has developed a sour, sulky disposition in the meantime, and is anything but a reliable performer nowadays.
