EASTERN RACING NEAR END PIMLIC0 FINISHES TODAY AND WASHINGTON MEETING IS DECLARED OFF. Statesman Reverses with Trance in a Fast Three-Quarters Cavo Adsum Takes His Race Many Go to Cuba. Baltimore. Md.. November C -With but one day more remaining before the racing seasoii of 100S in tins part of the country comes to a close, local followers of the sport are turning out In droves at Pimlico. The attendance this afternoon compared favorably with any of the big days of the meeting. The Maryland Jockey Club provided its patrons with an excellent program. Besides the Patapsco Hunt purse, the New Howard purse and a hunters steeplechase, there was offered as an attraction a two-year-old race In which the best two youngsters racing here. Trance and Statesman, met. There, were enough incidents crowded into the running of the last-named race to make it stand out over the others in point of interest. First the indications from the ring led one to believe that Trance would not run her race, and- on top of it came a report from the paddock that jockey Nicol. who was carded to ride the filly, was not in condition to do Trance justice. Stewards Morris and Bryan immediately made a trip to the jockeys room to satisfy themselves in regard to the truth of the rumor. They found that there was absolutely no foundation for the rumor in regard to Nicol. and he was permitted to ride the filly. Trance ran her race but It was not good enough to beat Statesman, which won easily and incidentally clipped four-fifths of a second off the track record for six furlongs bv running the distance in 1:12. Tranco showed a fine turn of speed for a half-mile, then tired and in the streteh drive Statesman found no trouble in disposing of her. Favorites won four of the races and this means that form followers got their share of the spoils. The hunters steeplechase proved an easy victory for Wayside, which outjumped and outran his opponents all the way. Master Tommy Wright had the mount on Amiable, which fell at the eighth jump, but came back and rode Bilberry in the two-mile race whicli was run on the fiat and surprised even-one by making a runaway affair of the race, easily disposing of the 2 to 5 favorite. Ironsides. Captain W. F. Presgrave has arranged with J. W. Pangle to take the apprentice rider. Ilinchcliffe. to ride for him at the meeting of the Havana club. A. G. Weston, preparatory to his departure for California, is disiosing of all of his horses. Ho sold to J. T. Muir this morning the two-year-olds Pimpante and Pocotaligo. The price paid was ,000. There were a number of arrivals from New York this morning, among them Al Stokes. J. L. MeGin-nis. jockey Ural. Bob McKeever. Christy Sullivan and Herman Conklin. F. AV. Gerhardy. secretary of the Havana Jockey Club, left for Cincinnati this afternoon. He will remain at Latonia for a few days and wilt leave Tampa. Florida, next Sunday for Havana. Four carloads of horses will leave Pimlico some day next week for Cuba. Positive announcement was made to the horsemen today by Colonel Robert Neville that the proposed meeting at Washington had been declared off. The gentlemen interested in the matter found that the authorities in the District of Columbia were not friendly to the meeting, hence their decision iu declaring all negotiations off.
