BROTHER OR SISTER TO ELECTIONEER. New York. November 0. William Lakeland is one of the eastern horsemen who will suffer through the hard times in store for racing, for. besides being a successful owner and trainer, he is also a breeder. He owns the Bend Or stallion. Goldcrest. and twenty mares. Last season Lakeland paid August Belmont ,500 for permission to mate one of his good mares to the stallion. Rock Sand, an Epsom Derby winner. He also bred the Himyar mare. Qticsal. dam of David S.. Trumpet. Tommy Atkins and the Futurity winner. Electioneer, to James R. Keenes Voter. Quesal. Mr. Lakeland says. Is in foal and her offspring next spring will be either a full brother or a full sister .to Electioneer. He hopes that Quesals coming foal may be as fast as Electioneer was tuid have a better temper. Mr. Lakeland is not as badly off as some of his brother horsemen. By declining to sell Electioneer to Harry K. Knapp, before the running of the Futurity of 1900. he made over 0,000 out of that race and afterward sold the colt to Felix Isman of Philadelphia. Isman paid 5,000 to Lakeland for Electioneer, which is now doing stud duty in Kentucky. The Voter colt bowed a tendon in the Brighton Cup of 1907 in which he was defeated by Salvidere. Running Water and Ballot. Lakeland made an effort to train him last spring, but unsuccessfully.
