ALL READY FOR ACTION AT OAKLAND. San Francisco. Cal.. November 0. The most important race meeting ever held on the Pacific coast will begin tomorrow at Oakland. Grandstand, clubhouse, betting ring, paddock, jockeys quarters and ellipse, which go to make up the already splendid race course of the New California Jockey Club across the bay. have been enlarged and beautified in an adequate manner to meet the requirements involved in being the racing headquarters of the United States for the next six months. The present California winter season of racing for 100S-9 will be inaugurated under the most favorable auspices. The class of racing from first to last will be immeasurably superior to other years. The attractive card for the opening day is a precursor of the high standard of excellence which will be maintained throughout the season. The Opening Handicap at one mile is its chief feature. Everyone of the prospective starters is forward in preparation. Firestones striding .seven furlongs gallop yesterday in 1:27 makes hirii the most conspicuous horse in the race with the possible exception of Montgomery, which is a doubtful starter. The quartette composing the HilUreth entry have all had fast and satisfactory trials. Dandelions mile this morning in 1:41?. pulling up. was the most impressive of any of the work-outs. Angelus. under different methods of training, was only asked to breeze a half, which he did in a fraction less than 4S. while Fitz Herbert failed ly three-fifths of a second to equal Dandelions time. The ante-post price against the Hlldreth entry for the big race is 4 to 5. Firestone, is second choice at 3 to 1. Ellisons pair. Royal Tourist and Don Enrique, are quoted at 0 to 1. and the Dayton pair. Jack Nunnally and Neva Lee. are held at 15 to 1. Of the outsiders Eyebright will have a big local following because of his having worked the distance in a shade over 1:40 flat.
