NOTES OF THE TURF. "Cricket" Kelly, the boy who was set down for Ins ride on Smiley Corbett at the Seattle meeting, is now at Los Angeles awaiting the opening day of Santa Anita Park. Kelly expects the stewards to look into his case and restore him to good standing. Notice has been posted at Oakland that entries for the -two-year-old races that will begin January 1, 1909. will be accepted only after proof of names allowed by the registration bureau of the Jockey Club has been submitted, and upon approval of schooling by the starter. The death of Lighterman was recently reported to the Jockey Club. He was sixteen years old and a son of iStudley Craze. He was bred in Ireland and imported to this country by W. C. Eustis. the Virginia turfman. Several mares belonging to Mr. Eustis are in foal to Lighterman, and excellent results are expected of the mating. It is a question whether it was due to a hemorrhage of the lungs or duo to a cold that caused S. C. Hildreths promising filly. Achieve, to bleed in her work last week. Hildreth thinks that Achieve is one of the best fillies he ever owned, and believes that the bleeding came from a cold, in which case it will be only a matter of time before the filly will be in good racing condition again. Nominators for the California Futurity of 1909. ,000 added, for foals of 1907. which closed last winter, are reminded that the conditions of the event provide for a forfeit of S25 unless declarations, are made by December 1, 190S. By filing prior to December 1. 190S, an accepted transfer of engagement, accompanied with all forfeits to date, the original subscriber will be released from further liability. Restigouchc, which went to the coast with a bad quarter crack, has grown a new hoof and is going along in his work preparatory to the tilling of his stake engagements. Hildreth will adhere to his plan of shipping part of his stable to Arcadia about a week prior to the date for the opening of the southern California track. Dave Leary will go along to train the southern division of the Hildreth stable, and Hildreth may himself remain at Oakland for some weeks yet.
