NOTES OF THE TURF. G. H. Diebold. former trainer for Tony Asle. was one of the recent arrivals at Oakland. Harry Stover says there is little chance of adverse racing legislation in the state Of Montana, and that the meeting to be held alt Butte next season will be conducted on a big scale. Clem Jenkins, the once noted jockey, well known both ,in this country and in Europe, recently underwent an operation for appendicitis in the St. Francis 1 Hospital at San Francisco. The chances for his recovery are good. Mondamin. which won the Derby Goldi Cup at Derby. England, last month, is six years old and had never won a race before. It is doubtful if the records of racing hold another case of a six-year-old maiden achieving, success in a high-class stake race. "Silver Bill" Riley, known and respected in racing circles all over the country, is lying at the point of death in Dallas. Texas. He contracted a cold recently and this developed into a severe case of pneumonia, from Avhich ,it is doubtful if he will survive. Rock Sand has become thoroughly acclimatized and is one of the most improved: horses in the country One Would hardlv recognize the horse now. if he had only seen him since shortly after die came to Kentucky. He lias gained in llesili to a wonderful extent and is the picture of health. It is estimated that about 2.C00 or 2.500 head of stock have been sold out of Kentucky in tlij last seven months. A great majority of this stock will never be seen again on the race course. This means that yearlings will be in great demand from now on and should racing open up in tho west next year horses will be higher than ever before. It appears that although the officials of the Butte Jockey Club have reinstated jockey Aubuclion. he has not as vet obtained a renewal of his lieense from the California Jockey Club. According to the rules governing racing on the coast, a jockey who has been under suspension must obtain a renewal of his license before being able to ride after his reinstatement. U. De Annan, who has disposed of all his horses and retired from the turf, contends that he is not guiltv of the offense for -which his entries were refused last season alt Santa Anita Parki and hoiies to present convincing proof to the officials to clear his turf record. De Annan points to the poor form shown bv Hereafter, which was the cause of his entries being refused, since ithat day and says that he was not responsible for the geldings bad race on that occasion.
