BACK TO FORMER EMPLOYERS. Jockey H. Smith, who was reinstated by the stewards of the Pacific Jockey Club a few days ago. hag entered. into contract with Lawrence and Comstock to do their riding the remainder of the winter sea-, son. It was while riding Escalantc, owned by W. ,J. Speirs, formerly trainer for Lawrence and Comstock. that Smith got into trouble and the fact that be has been re-engaged by his former employers-teems to indicate that they do not hold him responsible for the defeat of the good sprinter. Mel Lawrence was very much delighted when he announced that he had secured Smiths contract.
