, . : ! WHAT PAUL J. RAINEYS HORSES WON FOR HIM u T Paul J. Rainey enjoyed a moderately successful turf year, but his stable returns were not up to the figures of 1007. when his horses won something in excess of 4,000. His two jumpers, Sanctus and T. S. Martin, were his best winners, but the latter did not turn out to be the all-conquering steeplechaser he was hoped to prove and was the disappointment of the stable. De Mund was the best flat racer in the string and, when fit. showed all of his old-time speed. Some of his victories probably netted his owner large profits that do not appear in the stable records. Sanctus was really one of the best timber-toppers of the year, but his racing was not always consistent, some of his defeats being hard to explain. The record of the stable was: Horse. Age. Pedigree. Sts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. Won.
