Free Knight the Bear, well served by the exhausting early pace, moved up fast when tinning for home and easily shook oft Marbles and La Oloria. but had to be suddenly btought to the whip in the closing strides to withstand Spohns rush. The latter, in an attempt to maintain a contending position for the t.rst half, fell away apparently beaten just before turning for home, but rallied unexpectedly in the final sixteenth and finished with a rush. La Cloria. forced to top speed by Marbles for the first five furlong-, tired badly in the final sixteenth. Marbles was sent out to force the pace and tired badly when an eighth out. Won driving: second and third the same. Ocean Queen ran back of the pacemakers to the head of the stretch, then gradually closed on Meddling Hannah in the final eighth under a terrific drive and got up in the very last stride. Meddling Hannah -bowed the most speed for six and a half furlongs, then tired, but hung on gamely. French Cook clung on gamely all of the final quarter under the whip. Gerrymander, off in a tangle, made up much --round throughout and finished fast. Giotto ran a good race. Tom Reid seemed stiff and sore when goin- to the pent. The winner was entered for 00: no bid. Maltbie ran well and res|Kinded gamely to a long stretch drive, but the winner was too good. Guy Fisher loomed up like the winner after turning for home, but tired badly in the final sixteenth. Polls ran a cracking good race, broke slowly and was in close quarters on the far turn, but got clear by swinging to tin- outside when turning for home and. coming through with a splendid final sprint, easily overhauled and passed his stablemate in the closing strides. Sir Ashtoa clung to the pacemaker until in the filial eighth, where he gradually drew away from Koeky OBrien and easily held second place safe iu the final sixteenth. Rocky OBrien displayed dazzling s| ce l for fan* and a half furlongs, then tired palpably. Danan Wan badly ent ,.tf and thrown clear out of the miming iust after passing the far turn.
