When Broomstick won the Brighton Hand! cap he defeated Irish Lad, which was then owned by Mr. Whitney aid Herman B. Duryea. His first yearlings were good lookers last fall and it is freely pre dieted that they will make iisoful tuu- ear-oats. Belle of Troy, a daughter of Fonso and The Belle, was bred cad raced by the late John B. McDonald. Mr McDonald, the breeder and developer of Rensselaer, half brother to Belle of Troy, was killed with Charles McMeekia in a railroad accident in England a f v years ago. McDonald and McMtekiii had gone to England to purchase a first-class stallhi! for their stud. M-Doiiald. who was financing the enterprise, was prepared to pay as much as SlnO.OOO for the right horse, and tiny had an eye on the Derby winner. Beck Sand, which was subsequently purchased bv August Belmont and established at his Nursery Stud. If McDonald had lived Belle of Troy would never hare left his stud. McDonald was very fond of her. as be was of everything that came froat The B lie. He named Belle of Trov for his home town, as he had previously named Reus setaer, her half -Mother, for his home county.
