ROYAL ONYX REGAINS FORM IMPROVES SUDDENLY AND DEFEATS DE MUND IN THE PIMLIC0 SPRING HANDICAP. Nimbus Makes a Sunmsimr Debut — Statesman Impresses Turfmen at Pimlico — P. J. Rainev to Sell Horses — Goldstein Recovering. Baltimore. Md.. April SB.— IM Mund in. I defeat for the Brat time this season in the Ptmlico Spring Handicap this afternoon, for which lie was .1 well haehed second choice. De Mund picked Up 138 pounds, made a terrific early pace and forced Royal Onyx to run the fastest six furlongs of the meeting to beat him out. Royal Onyx ran a widely different race from his previous one liere. He was a forward contender at all stages of tie trip today, while in his last effort he was l caten off some six or. eight lemrtha. Statesman and Thistledale were the winning favorites and iHith were easily best in their races. State-man was under restraint all the way in his race and ould have won further off had his rider wished. Horsemen are already making predictions that this colt will gather in .most of the big three year-old stakes. He is i-ertainly in Trend form iust now and is easily the Ix-st horse at Piinlii-o. The greatest disappointment of the afternoon was the wretched showing made by Nimbus in the handicap. At no stage was lie able to raise a respectable gallop and for tlie entire trip he lumbered along in the rear anil was beaten off. There was a new drawing in the ring today and six new layers cut in. which brought the total naimlier up to thirty-six. Among those who went on. the new additions were Fred Bundle. J. Rusek S. Smith. A. Eb/od and T. Winters. Speculation was heavier than on any previous day of the meeting. Jockey Phil Goldstein, who was injured while riding Transition yesterday, was reported to be much improved and the doctor, say that he will be up and about again in a week or ten days. Paul J. Rainev has announced that all of his horses with the exception of De Mund. Horace E.. Black Bridge. Voltaire and T. S. Martin will be disposed of by public auction at the Pimlico course on May 3. T. S. Martin will be retired 1 11 .1 turned out for the remainder of his days on Mi. Rainevs farm at Hicksville. L. I. Thomas Stephens, of Montreal, arrived at tl e course this morning. Stephens mission here was to arrange for the shipment of the Hastings -tiillii.u. Masterin.in. and the imported stallion. Seabora. • to I Mini. U John Boden donated Masterman to the Canadian Breeding Bureau, while iwyn Tompkins presented Seahorse II. Stephens reports that there are now seventeen stallion- in the bureau and that William Shields, besides donating the Lamplixbter horse. Holsehcr. has given the sturdy old campaigner. Logan, to tlie bureau. The stewards have issued an order that all bleed ers be barred from starting in tlie future. This applies to horses that have bled in their work as will as in races and a heavy penalty will be imposed on anyone who knowingly enters a bleeder in a race.
