JOHN W. GATES TURNS TOWARD RACING. Calveston. Te x.. May 5. — John W. Cutos is promoting the c-oiistiuetion of a race track on a small islanel in the Oulf of Mexico off Port Arthur and just outside--the .jurisdiction of the state. With the driving of racing from Texas. Mr. Gates conceived the- idea of building a race coarse on this island. which is only six miles from the- mainland and i asilv accessible. He- is organizing a smek company with ,900,000 of eastern capiial. while he- himself will own about thirty per cent. The track, with appurtenances and buildings, will cost "0.ii.in.
