BETTING IN SAN FRANCISCO. Syndicate Said to Have Been Organized to Handle Commissions on Western Races. San Francisco. Cal.. June S. — Since the California racing aeasoa was brought to a premature close by the operations of the Walker-Otis law. there has been an absence of race track betting in Sun F-an-cisco. The handbook men have been awaiting the materialization of the plan credited to the racing interests for a proper testing of the new law. It is now said that a poolroom syndicate has been organised, with headquarters in a prominent office building in San Francisco and branches in numerous cigar stoies in the city, for the purpose of receiving beta on the outcome of the races at Salt Lake City and Victoria. The method of procedure, as given out by those claiming to represent the syndicate, will be for the bettor to make hiR bet at a cigar store at least an hour in advance of the time the horses are supposed to be at the poet for that particular race. The name of the horse and amount wagered will then be telephoned to the headquarters of the syndicate. At the conclusion of the days events file money with which to pay off will be sent to the various places by messenger.
