The latter began slowly, but gained gradually and would have won at a longer distance. Sallan began with his customary slowness, but finished with a rush under hard urging. Short Order was far back for the first quarter, but moved up rapidly in the stretch and was going fastest at the end. The Fad went well for a half only and is apparently a non-stayer. Meadow-grass took the lead in the first quarter and came away in the stretch to win as his rider pleased. Nettie Traver raced gamely for the first seven furlongs, bnt tired in the stretch and just lasted long enough to save second place. Winning Star, hard ridden throughout, labored in the going, but came fast near the end. La Fayette, in the worst going throughout, made a good effort on the stretch turn, but tired in the last furlong. Joe McCarthy ran fairly well. Grenade tired badly after going a half.
