0D0M BEWAILS TRANCES BREAKDOWN. New York, July 10. When Fitz Herbert won the Lawrence Realization George 31. Odom, owner or Trance, shook his head sadly. "If Trance had not broken down at Pimlico," said Odom, "I believe she would have disputed the three-year-old honors with iMith Fitz Herbert and Slaskette. She beat Fitz Herbert three times last year and also ran a dead heat with- him, while he beat her only once. During last winter I felt sure that Trance would be a formidable factor in the struggle for three-year-old honors, but luck was against her. it seemed. She has not had a saddle on her back since 3Iay 11, but I still believe she will be able to race again." Odom lias made rapid strides as a trainer. During the recent Sheepshead Bay meeting he won seven races In sixteen starts, with only one horse out of the money. Odom has in his barn such useful racers as Nimbus, Prince Gal, Follie Uevy, Bonnie Kelso, Comedienne, Trance, Traveller and others. He recently purchased a number of high class yearlings. This young turfman retired from the saddle less than three years ago to become a trainer. He met with little encouragement at first, but by sheer perseverance he has taken a place in the foremost rank.
