Vanderbilts Defender rau third In the Prix Ville de Caen at Caen, iu France, Monday. Robert McGibben, who lias charge of the ring at Oakland, Is a recent arrival at Saratoga from California. Jockey Clifford Gilbert will do the riding for Frank Weirs stable at Saratoga and possibly at Sheopshoad Bay. Steeplechase jockey Harry Stone has recovered from the effects of his fall from Touchwood at Graveseud and will resume riding at Saratoga., Malacca, which fell after running forwardly in the opening days steeplechase at Saratoga, recently returned to this country from a campaign iu France. R. E. Watkins, who has arrived -at Windsor with Ida D. and Orphan Lad. left Lad of Langden at Sheepshead Bay to recover from the effects, of having struck himself in his last race. Jockey Gaugel,- who was suspended at Seattle last summer, has been restored to good standing, and will ride for I. II. -Wheatcroft during the remainder of the Victoria meeting and afterward at Vancouver. J. M. .Johnsons Columbia Maid, a four-year-old tilly; by Ornus Becky Sharp III., and J. Bolauds Little Minister, a five-year-old chestnut gelding by Prime Minister Queen Vic, are reported dead at Victoria, B. .0. Thomas Hitchcock, Jr.s, Hedge Rose and Redman Queen. E. A. Breuuan with Terah, Petulant. Gold Dust. LadyOrimar and Kenneth B.. and F. P. Wilson with Rebel Queen and Pete Vinegar, reached Windsor yesterday. N. E. McAbee, who in his younger days rode on eastern tracks, makes a practice of riding his own horse. Beaver Dam Lad. which he is training and racing at Victoria, It- .C. McAbee is well along in years, .but Is still siiry iu the saddle. Among the horses that J. O. Keene is training in Russia are twelve belonging to the president of the Moscow Jockey Club. Jockey Morritt Buxton and his brother Charles, formerly trainer for the Fleur de Lis Stable on the Pacific Coast, are connected with the Keene establishment.
