Paul Davis was well up in the first quarter and, savhig much ground on the turns, took a big lead 011 the stretch turn and won as his rider pleased. Broadsword had a rougli trip for the lirst three furlongs and linlshed with a rush. Lumen closed a big gap in the last quarter and was going fastest at the end. Jim Miller went into contention soon after the start, hut was shuttled back on the tirst turn. J. II. Houghton suffered from interference. My Henry broke slowly and finished fast. The General Armstrong had a rough early trip, lint came witli a rush when clear and was going away at the end. Alfred the Great ran forwardly from the start and only gave way in "the final strides. Colonel Jot was crowdeil back after going three furlongs, but came fast after recovering. Hickory Stick was thrown against the fence after going a quarter and would have been a sharp factor with a clear course,. Kichii Tanaka set the earlv pace, but tired badly in the last furlong. A. Leach to the lirst turn, where be cut across sharply-and forced the latter back, then took a good lead and held the race safe In the linal drive. W. A. Leach ran a good, game race and may have Ieen best. Grania went well and would have been closer up but for being in a iocket most of the wav. All Red had no mishaps. Lord Elam was interfered with soon after the start and gained steadily, lint was not good enough. Lady Etna ran well and had no mishaps. Louis Reil showed speed, but tired in the stretch. Springsteel had scant chance after the start. Starover and Charmian unseated their riders at the start when they bolted. The winner was entered for 00; 110 bid. Silverine set a fast pace, had 110 mishaps and tired badly in the last seventy yards. Minnie Bright was poorly ridden, ran well and Huished gamely. Apologize was in close quarters most of the way and ran a good race. Pat Sharp came witli a rush in the last quarter. Soil was away poorly. The winner was entered for 00; 110 bid. Fulford was prominent for the entire trip, but not giNid enough. Busv Man, practically left at the post and forced to go wide throughout, ran well and closed a big gap.
