GOSSIP FROM BLUE GRASS REGION. Lexington, Ky.. August 23. Frank Grosche has twenty-live horses, twenty of them yearlings, in his barn at the Kentucky Association course. Except that of John Rodegap, this is the largest string In the care of any one man here. The five older horses in thi? Grosche string are; P, J. Milieus Cottontown, George Wllders Topland, Hal Woodfords Senator Combs and W. H. Fizers Marie Hvde and Nina Hogau. The three last named are two-vear-olds that have never raced. They were broken as vearlings and turned but near Paris until a "few days ago. Senator Combs is by Requital, out of Scottie. Marie Hyde and Nina Hogan are both bv Handcuff, a son of Hanover and Black Marin, bv Bonnie Scotland, that John Ferriss raced with considerable success. Marie Hyde is out of Miss Gollghtly. and Nina Hogan is from Sewing Girl, the dam of Morales. Cottontown was mated witli a few mares last spring at the Millett farm nnd for two months Dr. Kinney of Paris drove him to a buggy. He came to the track last Thursday looking in the best of health and apparently not bothered bv bis bad left: foreleg, in which the tendon had been bowed. Grosche says he feels sure the spoedy son of Captain SIgsbee and Lauretta Burke, now six years" old, will stand training again. Topland is now a tractable gelding. Grosche expects him to give an excellent account of himself at the fall meetings. There were scores of horsemen hereabouts who in the early spring regarded Topland as one of the best two-year-olds in Kentucky. As early as March his owner turned down an offer of ,500 rir him, made by J. C. Milam. Bar one. the bay colt by Knight Errant, out of Amaranth, belonging to P. J. Millett. which is undersized and sway-backed, the yearlings are an average lot in size and appearance. The list is as follows: Property of F. D. Clarkson and W. n. Fizer Chestnut colt by Lamplighter Glidaga. Chestnut colt by Inspector B. Princess Bowling. Bay colt by Yorkshire Lad Stars. Bay colt by Monsieur de LOrme Song. Black colt by Cesarion Gold Wing. Property of W. H. Fizer Floy Battle, b. f, by Spinel Sues Sister. Mahlon Webb, ch. c, by Lord Esterling or Spinel Tennie F. Hackling brother to Morales, b. c, by The Commoner Sewing Girl. Chestnut filly by Allan-a-Dale Foundling. Property of W. H. Woodford Bay lilly sister to Jeff Bernstein by Orlando Lake Breeze. Chestnut colt half-brother to My Gal by Orlando Babbie. Bay colt half-brother to Pinkola by Captain Sigsbee-r-Wyola. Chestnut Ally by Pink Coat Fleuron. Bay filly by Pink Coat Ida Ledford. Bay filly half-sister to Brand New by Carlton Grange Lena Brand. Hay filly by Knight Errant Ruby Right. Property of George Wilder Bay colt half-brother to May Jenc" by Jean Bercaud Mattie Long. Property of Charlton Alexander-Bay filly half-sister to Abelard by St. Lawrence II. Lady Abbess. Property of Charles Peftjcord Bay colt half-brother to Judge Dundon by Oriniar Florence Hudson. The best-appearing colt is the half-brother to Boserrian. On looks he should prove a serviceable racer. The half-brother to May Jene is a picture of Tom Dolan. The half-brother to Pinkola is better looking than was that speedv son of Pink Coat at the same age. The filly out of Foundling is a veritable picture of her dam, which, together with Schwalbe. holds the mile record of 1:39 over the St. Louis Fair Grounds track. Fleurons daughter is also very much like her dam in npx;aranee.
