Mombassa, a forward and persistent contender throughout, was crowded by the winner against Footpad on the far turn and lost some ground. Footpad, crowded out in. the first sixteenth and pulled up abruptly, was excessively used In closing a big gap In. the middle quarter, was again interfered with at the half and finished, a. tiring third. $ n. Reed, pulling up arid left on the extreme outside, closed an immense gap arid was close up at tlie finish. Aspirin, .away poorly, rapidly, improved his position and loomed up menacingly on the stretch turn, but tired. finally in a cracking effort. Taboo was shut off and pulling up repeatedly all the way and is extra good. , Begkori ran forwardiy for seven furlongs. Comedienne set the pace for half of the journey and quit badly iri the stretch. Student King, in the rear division for the first iriile,, closed up fast into a. game second. Sparker made the running for half of the journey and tired badly as if short. Suuglow got into a long lead when the two favorites fell and seemed the winner, but fell at. the twelfth jump. Commodore Fontaine was leading under a pull by five lengths when he fell at the Liverpool in the second circuit of the course. Sandy Crecker was moving up into second place with a rush when lie fell at the same jump. The finish seemed strictly between the pair. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. Zlenap ran iu forward outside pursuit throughout and was a game and close up third. Gliding Belle met interference on the first turn and lost ground in the early running, then moved up fast in the middle running, hut was messed about and finally finished a fast going, but belated, fourth. Hill Top, away poorly, closed a big gap In the middle running ami loomed up menacingly on the stretch turn, but tired in the closing drive. Sir John Johnson, virtually- left and securely pocketed behind a solid wall of horses on the first turn, made up much ground, but had no chance.- Zipango, well up for the first mile, failed to stay.
