PLAUDIT GOING TO HAMBURG PLACE. New York, September S. Plaudit, just back from France, accomplished ills sea voyage in tine condition, according to John Madden, his owner, and will be sent immediately to Hamburg Place to become onee more the head of the Madden stud. This Illmyar stallion was sent abroad last fall with twenty-odd mares in foal to him and to Yankee, Ogden and lianudes. when the fortunes of American racing looked dark. They were established in France, where the mares foaled last spring. The mares were bred back to Plaudit In the spring and subsequently were sold with their produce. The colts and Allies foaled last spring and whatever their dams may drop next spring, will be eligible to start in all French races when they attain the racing age. Mr. Madden did not think of bringing Plaudit back to this country until King James began to distinguish himself last spring. After the Metropolitan and Rrooklyn Handicaps, in which the big bav defeated Fayette and Celt, the master of Hamburg Place made up his mind that Kentucky was the proper place for Plaudit, and ordered him home. Plaudit will resume his accustomed duties next season. Sam Illldreth, who trained Plaudit in 1S00. the year he broke down, says that he was as good a racer as King James is. This will surprise horse folk who have had the idea that Plaudit outbred himself when lie got the Metropolitan and Rrooklyn Handicap winner. Plaudit is the second great American horse shipped abroad last fall to return this year. August Relnionts four-year-old. Fair Play, a son of Plaudits distinguished half-brother. Hastings, came back recently and James R. Keenes Colin will return next year after he has served a bunch of mares in Great Rritalu.
