BAYARD0 WINS THE ST. LEGER. London, Eng.. September 8. The historic St. Leger, next to the Derby In point of prominence, was won at Rom-aster today bv Rnvardo, with Villous second and Waldorf Asters Mlrador third. .Milium, winner of the 100! Derby and the hope of King Edward VII., ran poorly and UmIsIkiI lu the ruck. Though warmly congratulating the successful owner. It was plainly evident that the king was disappointed. Ever since Mlnoru won the Derby, following a previous victory In the Two Thousand Guineas, it was a well-known fact that the king had his heart set on winning the St. Leger, the last leg of the Triple Crown. Rayardos race today demonstrated that the critics were right when they stated the colt was amiss In the Derby. He was an overwhelming favorite and it Is stated on the best or authority that the bookmakers received the most terrltie drubbing in mnny years. There were seven starters. Lad Vista was second and Artisan third. The twelve starters included J. R. Keenes Esperanto, which was an eligible for the St. Leger. but was withdrawn from that race.
