Merry Gift was restrained to the last furlong, where she wore Loyal Maid down and won eased up. Loyal Maid showed much the most speed for the first live furlongs, but tired in the last furlong. Woolstone began witli his customary slowness and closed a big gap in the last quarter. Olive Ely was prominent for most of the trip and would have been third but for suffering from interference. Pocomoke was in close quarters most of the way and would have been dangerous with a clear course. Otogo had a rough trip. Elfall tired after going live furlongs. Illacko, from a slow beginning, moved up steadily and, wearing the leaders down in the last quarter, won going awnv. Grande Dame seemed unable to extend herself fully in the early running, but moved up resolutely after going a half, despite losing much ground when turning into the stretch, and was going fastest at the end. Lexington Lady ran a good race and outstayed King Avondale in the closing strides. The latter set llic pace to the stretch and tired. Osorine had no mishaps and quit near the end as if short. Alice George ran fairly well. Joe Gaitens tired in the stretch and Tony Faust retired after going a half. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. Scratched 84275 Maxim Gun. Hickory Stick was forced to go wide for the first three furlongs and was gaining in the last furlong. Starover went well for a hair, then tired fast. Fearnaught II. swerved badly In the stretch and ran poorly. Jack Dennerlen quit badly after going three furlongs. The winner was entered for ; no bid. Overweights Hickory Stick, 5 pounds. Plaud-more was restrained until in the last quarter, where he moved by Great Heavens with ease and won cantering. Great Heavens was rushed into the lead soon after the start and held a long lead during the first three-quarters, but tired badly in the stretch and barely lasted long enough to hold second place. Old Honesty, probably best, was given a bad ride and kept in the softest going for the entire trip, finished gamely and was wearing Great Heavens down at the end. Cave Adsum ran fairly well. Manzano blundered at some of the fences, but finished gamely after going over the last jump and outstayed Class Leader. The latter showed speed over the first fifteen jumps, but tired badly when hard pressed. Sunglow blundered repeatedly and ran poorly. Caloorahatchee was going well when he fell lame. Jeanette JL was in nearest pursuit all the way, but was not good enough to beat the winner. Quagga came from a long way back in the, stretch and was going fast at the end. The Wrestler tired after going a mile. Golconda made a game effort on the stretch turn, but tired in the final drive. Azo finished well.
