NAMING OF TWO FAMOUS RACERS. The naming of horses sometimes gives rise to good stories, it was said that one bright spriug morning two colts were lwrn at Elmendorf. in Kentnckv. the home of Colonel D. 1. Swigert. Mrs. Swlgert happened to visit the city on that dav and made several purchases, which she displayed to her lord and master on her return home. Colonel Swigert never had a reputation for excessive generosity, and when lie view"ed the result of his wires shopping expedition he waxed sonfe-what wrathy. "I was just thinking of naming those thoroughbred colts, madam." said he. "and I think I shall name one of them In your honor. I shall caU hint Spendthrift." "A thousand tiianks. Colonel." retorted the sprightly gentlewoman. "A thousand thauks. and I presume you will be gallant enough to permit me to name the other oneV "Certainly, madam." retorted the owner of Elmendorf. tartly. "Well, that being the case. Colonel." resumed, the adv. "I shall name the other one for you ami call him Miser." Roth liorses turned out to be among the best ever seen on the American turf.
