GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY FARMS. Lexington, Ky., September 20. 0 rover Hughes, who has the reputation of being a handy man with a crippled racer, has taken up the ringboned War-field and will try to duplicate with him the success lie achieved with such horses as Black Fox. Roscoe. Oarrett Wilson and Dr. AVang after those horse had been discarded as worthless by others. After he developed a ringbone, AVariield was sold by AV. J. Aoung for J. II. Lesii to Dr. Robert Bryan, the veterinary surgeon. He has been running out for some time at the Darnaby farm near this city. Hughes bought him from Dr. Bryan last Friday and lie was put in training again at the Kentucky Association track yesterday. In addition to AVartield, Hughes has the two-year-olds Billie and Iliindseller and three yearlings the chestnut filly by Nasturtium Devotee: the chestnut colt by Handspring Rachael Allison, and the chestnut colt by Handsel Stamen. A number of local trainers, among them Walter Crater. W. J. Aoung. S. K. Hughes. Callaher Brothers. Frank Crosche. John Stevens, T. II. Stevens, John Rodegap and James I. Ross, are making preparations to ship this week to Louisville for the meeting that is to open at Churchill Downs next Saturday. Tiie finest string among all of the nearly 200 yearlings that are in training at the Kentucky Association track is that owned by Schwartz Brothers of New Aork and in charge of ,7. AV. Mav. Thev made their first appearance on the track Saturday morning. Eugene Rucker has decided to sell his farm on the Iron A orks road and at the same time the stud of thoroughbred mares and weanlings belonging to Mr. Rucker and Klnzea Stone will be disposed of. The farm contains 2S0 acres and the horses will be sold on the farm. They are Roseberv and colt by Sir Dixon, Laura Ethel and colt by Cesarion, Alabama and colt by Aotor. Cold AVave and filly by Star Shoot. Mrs. Mahiprop and filly by AVoolsthorpo. Dissembler and tiliy by Mexican. Aarian and filly by Coldcrest, Pocketpiece and filly by Cesarion, Semper Cara and filly by Cesarion. Sparkle Ksher. Handover. La Fort. Lucky Piece, Marica, Indian lairy and State Craft, which had no foals this year. A number of these mares were bred last spring to Planudes, .Messrs. Rucker and Stone having leased that stallion from John E. Madden for the season. Planudes has lioen returned to Hamburg Place. It may bo that lie will be sold hi the near future. Mr. Madden having recently been asked to put a price on him. The only other thoroughbred that will go under the hammer at the Rucker and Stone sale Is the yearling brown colt by Mexican out of LAIoil-otte. Jack Coode will make a winter campaign at Jacksonville with Jack Denman. a yearling son or Ornament and Excellent, for which ho and Charles F. Denman paid ,000 last spring.
