MUD RUNNERS MONOPOLIZE PURSES. Yesterdays Racing at fforonto Over Heavy- Track Devoid of Special Incident. Toronto, Out., September 24. Todays races at Woodbine were run over a deep and heavy tracki It was a. perfect day for mud runners and horses that fancied that sort of going swept the card. With the exception of Hiacko, all of the winners won off by comfortable margins. Besides the Norfolk purse, which called for Canadian-breds. there were provided as attractions the Novice Steeplechase and the Ringwood Steeplechase, the former at a mile and a half and the latter at two miles. Dr. Pillow won an easy victory in the Novice chase, while it was no more than a good exercise gallop for Pretty Michal to win the Ringwood. James Johnston, who developed Copper and other capable jumpers for Mr. Lor-illard a few seafsons back, furnished the favorite for the Novice in his three-year-old. High Hat. This colt had schooled in brilliant fashion and had been jumping so impressively that several offers bad been made for him. including one of ,500 by J. W. Colt. High Hat was ridden bv Sampson and at the first fence the latter lost one of bis stirrups and tumbled off. The mishap robbed the race of much of its interest, as race-goers were anxious to see just how good a jumper High Hat was. High Hat out of the way. Dr. Pillow was never in danger and won pulled up. Jockey Guy Burns rode three of the afternoons winners. He had the mounts on Hiacko and Paul Davis in the first and. second races and also on Dixie Knight, winner of the closing event. . A killing of no mean proportions was made by P. T. Chlnn with Dixie Knight as" the medium. The colt had to be much the best to win. for. when the break came, he got caught in a jam and was crowded back to last position. Burns wisely kept to the inside, saved much ground at the turns, closed with a great rush and. passing the tiring Ilex at the sixteenth post, drew away into a comfortable lead of three lengths at the end. The last three races were won by the public choices, while the winners of the first four were accorded strong support. This meant that the layers, who have had none too soft a time of it here, failed to lay up anything on the afternoons business. Steeplechase jockeys Harry Stone and A. Davidson readied here this morning from New York. Stone came up to ride Waterway in tomorrows steeplechase stake, while Davidson will have the mount on Sir Woostcr in the same event. The big stable that Thomas Clyde has raced all season on the northern circuit under the management of Captain W. F. Presgrave. will be shipped from here to Baltimore on Tuesday next to be rested up for the opening of the Piiulico meeting. The program books for Pimlico arrived this morning and were distributed among the horsemen. All of the big s.tables that have been participating in Canadian racing will be shipped from Windsor to Baltimore. Steeplechase jockey Harvey Boyle was restored to good standing by the Canadian Racing Associations at the meeting last night. Boyle will likely have the mount on Dacra tomorrow. With the running of tomorrows urogram, the Ontario Jockey Clubs fall nun-ting will come to a close. The club will add to the six races tomorrow no less an amouut than S7.5Q0.
