Track Scraped and Faster Time Results Augmented , Speculation in the Pari-Mutuels. Louisville. Kv., September 27. The expectations the Churchill Downs management were realized this afternoon, when there was an augmented attendance and a correspondingly larger volume of plav in the mutuels and auction pools. Despite that todays card was only ordinary, interest in the sport was keener than on the opening day. Most of this favorites were beaten and all the winners were at good odds. Solicitor, in the second race, paying a trifle over JJ20O. Large lields partially accounted the failure of. the favorites. As a result or scraping that the track underwent yesterday, fairly fast time was recorded m several "instances. The feature, a handie;tp. .at- three-quarters, had only four starters, but they furnished a lively contest from barrier .rise to finish. Al Mullcr ultimately triumphing over Dainty Dame by a scant margin, with Merrick and Tom Hayward pressing the pair clo-clv. I-red Luzader. acting for J. It. Vainwriglit. boosted the winner .00 over his entered price of $.100. but failed to get him. Young in retaliation claimed Warden, which had finished second, for .25. Autumn Rose furnished an upset in the fifth bj taking the measure of fourteen other youngsters after a hard stretch drive to stall off Rvunhilde. Ilufnagel. on the latter, claimed that the winner had impeded his mount, but the- judges did not account the interference of consequence and allowed the finish to stand as originally placed. Beau Brnmniel led a fair band to the finish in the closing race. W. II. Fizer arrived today from New York witli "twelve horses that lie will race on the Kentucky tracks during the fall. Jockey Mountain, who is at present in Lexington, will arrive to do the stable riding. Jeff Bernstein will not be raced again thin season and will be shipped to Lexington during the next few days to be turned out. The string of racers now being campaigned by J. B. Kespess will not be shipped west again until the close of the eastern season.
