1a j I . HORSES KILLED AT CHURCHILL DOWNS. Louisville. Ky.. April It;.— During one of the most terrific thunder storms experienced in this region in many years, several of the stables at Churchill Kowns wen- struck by lightning this afternoon and destroyed. The long row of stalls quartering the horses belonging to J. H. Respess bore the brunt of the Mtft F. P.. Respess Norbit H.vnes. a four year-old chestnut colt by Ormicant — Scarf Pin. and Sollto. a two-year old bay gelding by Mazagau Countess Irina. and Ceorge J. Longs Dialler, a three year old bav colt by Alvcscot Veronica, were llistantlv killed. Following the crash, fire broke out and for a time endangered all the stables on the southern side of tin- enclosure. A volunteer bucket brigade "imposed of stable hands, jockeys ami owners, after hard battle, succeeded in conquering the Haines before excessive damage was done.
