HORIZON TAKES THE VENUS CARMAN FILLY BEATS FIVE ACES ANIJ QUINCY BELLE IN Y0NKERS FEATURE. Schoolmarm Reduces the Track Record for a Mila and Twenty Yards, Aided by Flying Send-Oif — Melisande Beats Chapultepec. New York. July 19. — R. F. Carmans Horizon was a handy winner of the Venus Stakes, the chief feature of racing at Yonkers this afternoon. She was opposed only hy Five Aces and tin- maiden Quincv Belle, but it was not until the final furlong that she was able to come away to win by a couple of lengths. Five Aces just lasted to Rare the place, for at the finish Quincy Belle, after being apparently beaten, came again with a determined rush. The handicap at three-quarters of a mile promised a better contest than the Vemts, and it went to James R. Keene a Melisande, which, away well, had speed enough to race her opponents into submission and came away easily at the end. In Una race Chapultepec made his first appearan.ee in over a year and his race was impressive. He followed the pace closely and lasted to save second money from Huy Fisher, which closed with a resolute rush when It was too late to be effective. In the selling race for fillies and inares School-marm reduced the track record for a mile and twenty yards one-fifth of a second when she led all the way and finished in 1:41?,. She was helped in her record-breaking performance bv Starter Cas-sidy in permitting the tield to gallop smartly to the barrier for the start. Jiwkey Shilling piloted Stare to an easy victory in the first race. Wilton Lackaye. a long sihot. beat out Creenhridge in the fifth, and Harvey F. won the last all the way. Broenbrhhre was probably best in his race, but jockey Koerner hustled him into a long lead and used Dim up so before the streteli was reached that .he had nothing left to withstand the rush of Wilton Lackaye. The weather was clear until just before post time for Hie last race, when there was-a light shower, bat it did not affect the track, which remained fast all afternoon.
