GOSSIP FROM BLUE GRASS REGION. Lexington. Ky.. July 19— O. II. Ciienault and other local breeders are figuring on holding a sale of yearlings here in Septemlier. Mr. Ciienault is of the opinion thai more profit to the breeder can be obtained hy selling at home tills fall than by shipping to New York, as has been the custom for ream. Irving H. Wheatcroft Is also In favor of the home-sale pioposition. "It may lie that we cannot organize a sale here." said Mr. Ciienault, "but I am of he opinion that we can. At any rate I will ship BOthlnC east. I will hold them here and sell them privately. I have fourteen yearlings." Ous Raatte, the veteran turfman who bred and raced Klaley Mack and other noted horses, is seri ously ill at the home of his relative. Nchson II. Sndth. in this ejt.v. J. W. May spent Sunday and Monday here In sisting the yearlings lie bought at the Sheepshead Day sales, accepting a handsome residence that has just been erected for him on South Droadwav and attending to other business. He left for New York Monday night. Mr. May says the yearlings, which are turned out at Beaumont Farm, are doing famously and he is highly pleased with his purchases. J. B. Besness was here from Cincinnati a day or two ago to inspect his mares and foals at John D. Carrs farm. He says he will send a portion of his stable, now at Latoiiia. to Saratoga. B. C. Hopper, who is spending the summer at his old home at Houstonville. says things are shaping up well for winter racing at Oakland and that Thomas II. Williams, who is now at his summer homo on the lfcCbwd Biver. in northern California, will come east abaat October 1 and make an announcement of plans, dates, etc.
