ANOTHER CUP FOR MONTREAL RACING. Montreal. Que.. August 0. — Several weeks ago Maj William Hendrie, of Hamilton, intimated to the executive committee of the Montreal Jockey Club that it was his desire to donate a can to the club iu memory of his father, the late William Hendrie. who was so prominent iu the annals of racing in Canada. Major Hendrie was immediately notified of the acceptance of his offer, and the conditions for the event to which the cup has been assigned have been drafted. It will be a three mile handicap steeplechase over a new course, with challenge conditions. Major Hendrie has always been a strong supporter of steeplechasing, and some years ago he and Colin Campbell had a stable of jumpers, consisting, among others, of such horses as Strathroy. Wild Thorn. Longforook, laverary, Scotch Reel. Stratbclyde. Santa Cruz. Loehinvar, Royal Bob and Jim Lisle. Purinic this period Mr. Campbell was thrice winner of the Montreal Hunt Cup. in 1801 and 1889 on Royal Bob. and again in 1900 on Jim Lisle. The stable was raced with success for several years, and it was with it that Nat Bay. at one time the peer of all steeplechase jockeys iu America, began his riding career. The Hendrie Memorial will undoubtedly attract a large field of horses, for most of the jumpers in the country are being pointed for the Blue Bonnets meeting. There an a large number of chasers at the Saratoga track now and some at Belmont Park. These will be shipped to Montreal at the conclusion of the meeting at the former track and. together with those that are already racing on the Canadian circuit, will make the greatest collection of jumping horses ever seen in Canada at any one time.
