RACING GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY. Louisville. Ky.. August 17. — Applications of horsemen for stable room at Douglas Park and Churchill Downs, in anticipation of the coming fall u ting, are arriving now by nearly every mail. Todav J. W. May, trainer for Schwartz Bros, and Frederick Johnson, applied for stable room. Mr. Mav stated that he would bring his entire string, here afler the close of the Ix-xingtou meeting. These horses, about a dozen, headed by Miss Nett. are now racing at Saratoga, but will 1 e shipped west immediately at the conclusion of the meeting at the Spa. A message from President Grainger states that practically all of the stables now racing at Saratoga will have representatives at the fall meeting here. The railroad agents in charge of live stock shipments have commenced activity in getting up special trains to bring horses from the east. It is settled that J. B. Madden will come here with all his horses in training this fall. Years ago he made this track his headquarters in a wintering way, but he has not raced here since Ftta won the Ken-Hickv Oaks for him over ten years ago, following Plauiiits Kentucky Derby victory in his colors the season previous. For tne first time in the history of Iv.ugbis Park and Churchill Downs every stable is already spoken for at the two tracks. J. J. Flannigan was bitten by a viper while pull ing grass at Douglas Park, but It is thought no serious result will easae.
