WINDSOR MEETING OPENS DONALD MACD0NALD CONTINUES HIS SUCCESSFUL CAREER BY TAKING HANDICAP. Threatening Weather Affects Attendance— Run-Up Follows The Golden Butterflys Victory — Eudgret of Newsy Racing Gossip. Detroit, Mich.. August 20.— Donald Macdonahl added to his long list of victories on the Canadian circuit this summer by winning the Royal oak Handicap, the feature of the opening program of the Windsor fall meeting this afternoon. He carried 123 pounds, made most of the pace and heat Sages a length in a driving finish. The pace was very fast throughout, the fractional time of the race being Sii. 4.3. 1:1*1, 1:38*. 1:40s. On todays showing it would seem as though this consistent racer would be a formidable factor In the Dominion Handicap, for which lie was assigned only livt pounds. Threatening weather had its effect on the attendance, although tile crowd was large. The program was, a good one, class being well represented. Barney Schreibers great campaigner, Jack Atkin. won the inaugural dash with great ease from the lightly-weighted FTj im. Footsteps. John W. Schorrs two-year-old filly, Edda, also showed a tine performance in the seventh race when she beat a hand of good youngsters. ••Farmer Bill" Scully won his lirst purse since his arrival in Canada .-.hen Muff captured the fifth race. The selling race feud which has been smouldering her, during the past few weeks broke out afresh after Tlie Golden Butterfly had won the sixth race. Entered for 9800, her owner was forced to bid ,306 to retain iier. Altxrt Simons was responsible for the run-up. J. W. It is said that James Howe and S. C. Hildreth may go abroad, report having it that the latter may handle the horses owned by Louis Wiuaus that aro racing in England. James Ross and Harry F. Breivogel were among the arrivals from Saratoga. They are here in the interests of the stakes to 1k run at the Kentucky tracks this fall. Mr. Ross left for Cincinnati tonight. The following owners will ship from here to Lex-bigton at the conclusion of the Windsor meeting: Amos Turner, J. S. Ward. D. C. Cottle. J. C. Fer-riss. T. F. Hayes. F. J. Fons and J. W. Bttrttschell. Among the owners who will ship from Saratoga to Kentucky are James Butler. W. i. Tanke, .tames GrUfln, J. T. Ireland. George Odom, Henderson and Hogan, Peter Wimmer, ,T. F. Madden and the horses that Thomas Welsh is handling for R. F. Little. Harry BretrogeL who recently returned from Juarez, reports that 4 0 of the new stalls have already been completed and that all will be finished two weeks before the meeting opens, also that the boulevard that is being built from El F:iso to the race course is well under way and w,11 1m fully completed in about a month. The bonding of the bathes into Mexico lias also been arranged on the an me lines as the bonding of horses from the United States into Canada. A contract has also been closed to handle the feed store on the grounds, and the grain will be ■hipped from Montreal via Galveston direct to Juarez. Phis arrangement will cheapen the cost of feed to a considerable extent, which will be appreciated by owners who race at the Mexican track next winter. J. Ilealy purchased the two-year-old Good News of William Shields today. Jockey .Tames Keid has purchased his contract from . C. Smtthson and will make his own engagements in future. He will ride for Gfcerge Conine]] during the Windsor meeting. J. Burttschell has purchased Radium Star of R T. Wilson. Jr. Francis J. Fons ha* announced that the stake blanks for the Jacksonville meeting, which are now in the printers hands, will be ready for distribution September 15. The inciting will hegin on Thanksgiving Day. November 24. The stakes will close October 29. After betting on the eighth race had lieon going on for about five minutes all the Inds were declared off. During his warm-Up Albert Star got the better of his rider, ran awaj and was excused from starting by the judges.
