SEASON NOW AT ITS CREST JACKSONVILLE MEETING BEING PATRONIZED BY LARGER NUMBERS THAN EVER. Mishap Spoils a Well-Planned Betting Coup with Belle Mawr as the Medium Guy Gray Gets Another Horse Out of Selling Race. Jacksonville, Fla., January 13. The winter season of racing in Jacksonville is now at its height and tie crowds at Moncrief Park are the largest of tin meeting. Todays attendance filled the big grandstand and speculation in the ring was exceedingly brisk. A good card of six events was provided by the club, with a six-furlongs sprint ns the feature. Miss Marjorie, in taking the breeders purse, was the only winner of the afternoon that had anything to spare. Four of the finishes were close and in two of them short margins separated the lirst two. An accident in the second race, in which Belle Mawr swerved to the inner rail in the stretch aud crushed her riders foot, spoiled a well-planned coup. Itelle Mawr was heavily backed and was beaten a short bead by King of Yolo. Hut for the mishap above mentioned, she would have won easily. Davis had to be carried to the paddock after dismounting aud will be out -of the saddle for a few weeks. Guy Gray added another racer to his string after ISad News II. beat Premier a head in the third race. It was a selling affair and Bad News II. was entered for 00. Mr. Gray lifted him 00 over that price and secured him. K. It. Bradley formerly owned the colt, but he was taken from him out of a selling race at one of the Kentucky tracks by Lou Johnson. s L. Blume is here from Mexico in search of mate-vial. His intentions are to buy about twenty-five or thirty thoroughbreds and ship them to Mexico. James Blute has about closed a deal for the promising three-year-old, County Tax. Terms have been practically agreed uiwn, but the sale will not be consummated until Mr. Blute returns from Kentucky. It. I. Williams purehsaed Fulford of George Ham after his last race. Mr. Ham took the horse out tit .atrcwcry wagon last fall at Nashville and succeeded in rounding him into good form ngaip. Frank Gardner arrived from New York this morning with the promising three-year-old. Babbler. Hie latter shipped well and will be raced here later on. Hugh Penny has secured a contract on the apprentice Martin Olson from James McLaughlin, Jr. Jockey Butwell was taken sick after riding Van Zee ami was compelled to concel his other engagements, Ozana, which was a starter in the fourth race, has been on the ailing list.
