OAKLAND HAS A THRILLING FINISH. San Francisco. Cal., January 13. Azo, Merlingo and Star Actor finished noses apart in the mile aud a quarter race at Oakland today. Merlingo made most of the pace, but Azo closed fast and beat him in the last jump. Star Actor ran away three miles after the race and Sclden was so tired that Gargan was substituted on Ayame in the succeeding race. Bain fell all the afternoon and the track was a veritable sea of mud. There were a number of surprises. Golden Agnes led all the way in the fourth and won from Pickaninny and Jest. T. S. White sold Poppy to James Myers. Early Tide will run in the jiamo .of the Spokane Stable and E. L. Jones will continue to train him. Jockey J. Melntyre wrenched his back in the third race and cancelled his engagements for the remainder of the afternoon. Uubia Granda was cut down in lier last race. arid was scratched yesterday for that reason. " Jockey 5uy Garner, who is under contract to Earl Litmell. has engaged L. A.
